Question by PC: Is there anything negative to using granite outside for a BBQ? What about in direct sunlight?
We really like the look of granite but it is very expensive and we’ve been getting mixed reviews on outside applications such as a BBQ counter top. The granite will be in direct sunlight and we’re concerned about the wear and tear on it.

Best answer:

Answer by Alex
It’s granite, man. It’ll last a lot longer than you or your bbq grill. If I could afford it I would choose it in a heartbeat. You may want to have it sealed after polishing to avoid any stains from oils or blood but even without the seal coat these would scrub away.

The pitmasters at Pork Barrel BBQ, are firing up their grill to test the flame-worthiness of popular consumer products in a new series called Can You Grill It?. The new episode released today on http://www.CanYouGrillIt.com features a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 getting grilled and bursting into flames at 500 degrees.????

Watch what happens when the grill masters get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy Tablet at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_H-evcmbbY. Compared to the Apple iPad Grilling test released last week http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9qLwYjZo8U – the Can You Grill It? Series shows a clear difference between Samsung and Apple products on the Barbecue grill.

After curious consumers see what happens when this Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Tablet is grill-tested over open flames, perhaps theyll have a new appreciation for CNETs review: It’s the feel of the plastic back that is the most disappointing aspect of the Tab 10.1′s design.

The countrys most innovative barbecue industry moguls, Heath Hall and Brett Thompson, are co-founders of Pork Barrel BBQ, the nations fastest growing barbecue sauce company, and the curious gill masters behind the Can You Grill It? web video series.

The pitmasters have ignited some controversy over their viral video series since launching the first Can You Grill It? video. Apple iPad On Fire featuring the Apple iPad 3 last week:

We cant say for sure how many Samsung Galaxys have been sold, but we have a pretty good idea of how many have been grilled, said Hall, President and co-founder of Pork Barrel BBQ.

Your average product reviewers test new products and report on their findings the products pros and cons, where the manufacturer exceeded expectations or delivered disappointments, said Hall. Consumer Reports, TechCrunch, and other product reviewers have always been curious about how products stand up to extreme temperatures, but have failed to take the important quality control step of seeing if you can actually grill the product. We are literally grilling products over a charcoal fire and revealing to everyone on video exactly what happens to these products when they are grilled.

About Pork Barrel BBQ

Pork Barrel BBQ was founded in December 2008 during the peak of the economic crisis to prove that a company not owned or operated by the federal government could succeed, and that if you had a good idea, it was still possible to grab a piece of the American Dream. Pork Barrel BBQ founders, Heath Hall and Brett Thompson, ran the company out of the basement of their houses, selling their award winning BBQ products one bottle at a time. In less than one year, their Pork Barrel BBQ Sauces and Spice Rub were carried in over 1,000 stores in 40 states. Throughout their journey, they have stayed true to their mission to unite the nation through the great tradition of BBQ, and bring bipartisan flavor to your next meal. The Pork Barrel BBQ Competition BBQ Team entered its first contest, The Safeway National Capital Barbecue Battle, in June 2009, and walked away with two trophies Second Place in the Nations Best BBQ Sauce Contest and Fourth Place for their pulled pork in the Memphis In May portion of the contest. Since then, the team has won multiple awards, including the 2011 Perdue National Chicken Championship, the Safeway National Capital Barbecue Battle in 2011, the Chinet Peoples Choice award for best BBQ sauce in 2010 and other notable Memphis in May and Kansas City Barbecue Society BBQ competition accolades as well as having their Pork Barrel BBQ Original BBQ Sauce named Best Sauce in America and one of The 125 Best Foods for Men by Mens Health Magazine in November 2010.

Here is a great twist on a winter classic. The other day I was craving a moist, succulent and hearty beef pot roast, but I knew I wanted to get creative. Pot Roast has been around seemly for ages and it never gets old. The key to a good pot roast is time and temperature. This recipe originated out of poverty. Many families could not afford the more lean expensive cuts of beef, so they had to settle for the more fatty and rugged cuts like the chuck and the blade roast. Making a tough cut of beef into a melt in your mouth delicacy is very simple and inexpensive. Its a wonder we only turn to this dish in the winter months.

After getting home from the store and beginning to prep my veggies and potatoes, I decided to make some slight changes to the cooking method. First, I turned the grill on high heat and let it get as hot as possible. I seasoned my meat with salt, pepper, garlic and fresh thyme. Once seasoned, I rubbed the meat with olive oil. I then placed my roast on the grill and seared the entire roast by browning the meat on all sides. I then removed the roast to a platter and set aside.

From there, I took my carrots, red onion, celery and potatoes and seasoned them with salt, pepper and garlic powder. I then tossed all of the veggies and potatoes with olive oil and placed them on the grill. I browned the veggies and the potatoes for about five minutes. Once nice and brown I removed them from the grill and placed them directly on the bottom of my roasting pan to form a nest. I then placed my seared beef on top of my vegetables and poured 2 cups of chicken stock mixed with 1 cup of BBQ Sauce into the pan. I placed the pan into the oven at 325 degrees for 2 hours.

After cooking for about two hours, I removed the pan from the oven and set the beef and vegetables on a platter. I then poured all of my pan juices and stock into a sauce pan and reduced to make my gravy. I simply sliced the roast and served it with all of the veggies and potatoes, it was amazing. The roast was melt in your mouth good. The BBQ flavor from the grill was outstanding. This is a must try. Keep in mind that you may need to add some more stock while your roast is baking.

Pork Barrel BBQ, the company who dazzled Americas noses with last summers blockbuster hit barbeque-scented fragrance, Que, today debuted a new YouTube video series designed to answer the age old question Can You Grill It? (http://www.CanYouGrillIt.com). Starting today, the countrys most innovative barbecue industry moguls will be firing up their grill to test the grill-ability of popular consumer products.

From the entrepreneurial minds that brought their national award winning barbecue sauce to ABCs hit reality show, Shark Tank, comes a new take on viral videos designed for curious epicureans, grilling enthusiasts, tech geeks, fashionistas, pyromaniacs, pitmasters and the everyday guys and gals who enjoy backyard BBQs.

Grill masters Heath Hall and Brett Thompson will attempt to satisfy their curiosities by grilling what no sane griller has dared to grill before. The first episode of Can You Grill It? features a flame test of Apples latest iPad.

As culinary artists we love to be at the cutting edge of cuisine and with the launch of Can You Grill It? we are prepared to take molecular gastronome to the next level, said Hall, President and co-founder of Pork Barrel BBQ. To kick the Can You Grill It? series off we asked the question on everyones mind Can You Grill a new Apple iPad? the hottest product on the market today.

The first episode of Can You Grill It? explores recent consumer issues related to Apples new iPad getting too hot to handle. To see if there is any truth to these overheating issues watch the video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9qLwYjZo8U to see the Can You Grill It team test the new iPads tendencies to overheat quickly.

If you have an idea for a product youd like to see the Can You Grill It team test on Can You Grill It? share your ideas with them by email at CanYouGrillIt@gmail.com, or by posting your ideas on the Can You Grill It Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/CanYouGrillIt?) or Twitter page (@CanYouGrillIt).

Want to show off to all your friends and neighbors at your next BBQ or Tailgate party? Do you know how to cook a decent steak but don’t know what else to put on that grill? Well, there is a way to give all types of food on your grill that amazing flavor, without complicated recipes and ingredients.

Over 23 years ago, Tim Lawhorn was working as an Executive Chef and Assistant Food & Beverage Director for a national hotel chain in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. It was there that Tim began experimenting with a few different seasoning formulas while trying to cut the hotels’ spice costs. One evening Tim came across an interesting combination of herbs and spices that when mixed together tasted phenomenal on a steak that he cooked. He continued to experiment and alter his new seasoning formula until he was sure that this blend was working well on all fronts.

Soon after getting his special seasoning blend just right, Tim started using his seasoning on just about everything he cooked, steak, chicken, fish, and even vegetables!

For years now, Tim has shared his blend with his hometown restaurant patrons and brought his seasoning along to BBQ cookouts and college football tailgates. In 2007, after encouragement from friends, family, and even an executive from the Hormel Meat Company, Tim decided to bring his revolutionary seasoning to market, so it could be shared with “Foodies” all over America.

Today, Lawhorn’s Signature Seasonings is an emerging seasoning business with current national distribution in Wal-Mart’s “Neighborhood Markets”, and regional placements in Publix, Winn-Dixie, Sweet Bay, Whole Foods Market and Chamberlin’s Natural Food Stores across the Southeastern United States.

Lawhorn’s revolutionary, certified kosher, all-natural blend contains 65% less sodium than ordinary “seasoned salts.” But most importantly, it actually tastes different on everything you cook with it! Lawhorn’s is an amazing seasoning blend. This product is changing the way America cooks every day!

Check out www.lawhorns.net for store locations, recipes, or to buy online and more! It’s a perfect gift for your husband, brother, or co-workers. Or sneak to the store and buy it yourself to surprise guests at your next cookout with your amazing new culinary skills! You can now follow Lawhorn’s daily happenings on Twitter, and you can also visit Lawhorn’s Facebook and YouTube pages, found on the website, to view recent videos of actual customers’ reactions in grocery store cooking demonstrations. Pretty interesting stuff to watch!
